We are pleased to welcome our newest member of the Board of Directors, Mavis Himes! In addition to joining the Board of Directors, Mavis Himes will also be taking over the role of Chair of the Board of Directors. With this appointment, she becomes the fourth Board of Directors Chair, and is preceded by the outgoing Chair Melanie Dixon, as well as Benjy Katchen, and our founding Chair Ada Wynston.
Mavis Himes is a psychoanalyst and clinical psychologist maintaining a practice in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in Toronto. She is a former clinical consultant at Wellspring, a psycho-social cancer centre for cancer patients and their families.
Mavis is also the author of two published works of non-fiction The Sacred Body: A Therapist’s Journey, (Stoddart, 2002) and The Power of Names: Uncovering the Mystery of What We are Called (Rowman & Littlefield, 2016), her work has also appeared in several academic and non-academic journals. Well into her years, Mavis decided to take up the cello and is now an aspiring cellist. Her book Cello Notes: on Music and the Urgency of Time is forthcoming in the fall of 2024.
With her previous professional involvement at Wellspring, Bereaved Families of Ontario, Outward Bound and Pleiades Theatre, Mavis has had experience sitting on and working with organizational boards and advisory committees.
